McAlister Institute's Teen Recovery Centers (TRCs) provide substance abuse treatment, recovery, and education for adolescent participants who are using, misusing, or abusing alcohol and/or other drugs. The centers schedule services to reflect school schedules in their areas to make participation convenient for the teens. To meet the unique needs of participants, program services are individualized. Aftercare, family counseling, and education are also offered. Services include educational groups, process groups, individual counseling, recovery supportive activities, aftercare, and dual diagnosis (co-occurring disorders) services. Participants attend workshops on a wide variety of topics, including AOD education, health education, HIV education, and life skills. The TRCs focus services on the population reflected in the geographic area of each center, including rural services. All adolescent services reflect the special learning needs of this age group, as well as the impacts of peer pressure and other adolescent stressors.

Residential detox is a five-to ten-day program which provides drug and alcohol education, and an introduction to 12-Step recovery in a safe, supportive environment. Referrals to longer-term treatment and sober living environments are provided. Fees are based on a sliding scale. Screenings are done daily at both the East County and North Coastal Regional Recovery Centers.

McAlister Institute’s HOPE program provides outreach and crisis intervention services to
homeless individuals in the east county. Services include:
• Referrals to shelters
• Referrals to alcohol and drug treatment, medical, dental, and mental health services
• Bus tokens are provided for verified appointments
• Detox services
• 12-Step self-help meeting referrals
• Individualized drug abuse counseling
• Homeless health care referrals are provided to East County clinics and centers of San Diego for emergency medical and dental issues, and assistance with prescriptions.

HUD sober living is a transitional housing program for homeless men in the north county. The length of stay is up to one year. Assistance in referrals, employment, placement, education, transportation, case management, and intervention services is provided.

This program offers outpatient services to pregnant and parenting women. Bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking services are provided. Services include individual and group counseling, individualized treatment planning, educational workshops, recovery topic-centered groups, job skills, parenting, recovery, addiction, relapse prevention, and health. Women also participate in on-site co-op child care in which they are taught parenting and other child care skills.

McAlister Institute Safe Housing Program provides residential housing for women refered by Child Welfare Services (CWS) who are in the process of reunifying with their children. Our mission is to offer a clean, safe and supervised environment for women and their children as they work to become productive members of society.
The McAlister Safe Housing Program is designed to:
- House recovering individuals who may benefit from the support of living with others in recovery.
- Be the next step towards living independently in the community.
- Be conveniently located within close proximity to our outpatient facilities.
- Have on-site, live-in managers responsible for the supervision of residents.
- Be available for community members and individuals who are attending other treatment programs.
